Job summary

Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, OR seeks a Resident Director to lead a living-learning community as a live-on Housing staff member. You will supervise Resident Assistants, plan programs, and respond to emergencies to support student development.

The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration with campus departments, and promoting student success through engaging activities and responsibilities. Housing and meals are provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• 1–3 years of experience in group/student living at a college or university.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, written and spoken.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and backgrounds.
• Ability to manage flexible work hours including weekends/evenings.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and databases; MS Office.
• Ability to follow procedures and policies; strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervising Resident Assistants to develop and implement programs and activities.
• Promote unity and teamwork among staff; provide training opportunities.
• Maintain visibility in the residence, dining facility, and campus; engage with staff and residents.
• Convey and promote student accountability to housing agreements and conduct codes.
• Establish clear expectations for staff and residents; foster a supportive living environment.
• Administer student conduct meetings and handle related documentation; assist with judicial processes.
• Counsel and refer students for personal and academic needs; respond to emergencies (on-call).
• Educate staff and residents on safety, emergency procedures, and security concerns.
• Represent Housing on committees; lead special projects; assist with housing openings/closings.
