Job summary

Johnson C. Smith University - JCSU is seeking a Residence Hall Coordinator for a 10-month, in-person live-in position (Aug–May). The role guides residential life, supports students academically and socially, and enforces community standards.

You will train Resident Advisors, coordinate safety initiatives with Campus Police, manage check-in/out, emergencies, and daily operations while maintaining records and on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; 1–2 years in Housing/Student Life or related field.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate planning, development and implementation of educational and special programming for residential students.
• Provide 24/7 coverage of assigned residence halls and on-call during evenings/weekends/holidays as scheduled.
• Supervise and train Resident Advisors and work-study students; assign and review work; evaluate performance.
• Coordinate opening/closing procedures for residence halls; oversee check-in/check-out.
• Report damages and coordinate maintenance/repair as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and hall council meetings; address real-time punch lists and follow up on maintenance requests.
• Develop safety programs with Campus Police; respond to emergencies; conduct drills.
• Conduct periodic inspections for cleanliness and safety; request maintenance as needed.
• Enforce standards of student behavior; act as role model for professionalism.
• Monitor student activities to maintain conducive living/academic environment.
• Mediates disputes and participates in judiciary hearings; maintain records.
• Represent department to parents, guests, and University community.
