Job summary

University of California, Merced is seeking a Residence Hall Manager to oversee operations, staff development, and student support within campus housing. The role includes live-in housing with a furnished apartment and an academic year meal plan, alongside a full UC benefits package.

Responsibilities span administration, staff supervision, crisis response, and program evaluation, all aimed at fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive residential community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field (Required).
• Advanced degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field (Preferred).
• At least two years of experience as a paraprofessional or professional in a live-on housing role in higher education or relevant field.
• One year of relevant professional experience in higher education or relevant field; 6 years equivalent in lieu of Bachelor’s.

Responsibilities

• Residence Hall Management: manage admin tasks, occupancy, and collaboration with housing services and safety teams.
• Supervision and Staff Development: recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants; lead staff development.
• General Administration: implement policies, evaluate programs, and prepare reports.
• Residence Education Curriculum: develop training programs and ensure staff competency.
• Student Development and Crisis Response: provide crisis intervention and conduct issues handling.
• Student Support and Advising: maintain visibility and guide residents facing academic or personal challenges.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field

Advanced degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field

Two years of live-on housing experience in higher education or relevant field

One year of relevant professional experience in higher education or relevant field (6 years equivalent in lieu of Bachelor's Degree)
