Job summary

Montana State University is seeking an Event Technician to provide technical support for athletic events, concerts, and university events. The role offers 30 hours per week with nights and weekends common, and a focus on AV, lighting, and equipment management.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with the Technical Director, and ensure smooth operation of production elements from load-in to load-out. The position demands problem-solving and strong customer service under event pressure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or certification in electrical, information technology, engineering, technical theater or related fields plus progressively responsible experience in a technical related job.
• Experience in problem solving/troubleshooting and repair of electrical/electronics and mechanized systems.
• Practical experience with sound and lighting for events.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and assists in the management of all equipment and activities related to use of technology for events/concerts, MSU department meetings, athletic contests, etc.
• Recommends and implements systems improvements and acquires new equipment.
• Troubleshoots and solves technical issues during events and coordinates with the Technical Director on appropriate measures to ensure all problems have been resolved.
• Maintains inventory control.
• Conducts training as needed for end-users.
• Actively manages, maintains, and repairs departmental technical, A/V, scoreboards, lighting equipment, and other related equipment.
• Works with vendors on repairs as needed.
• Purchases new equipment in compliance with MSU’s procurement policies.
• Occasionally advances production of assigned concerts/events with the artists and their production teams
• Directly works with campus constituents and other potential clients to best meet the client’s technical needs.
