Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking a Counsel in the Chicago area to manage a caseload of low to moderate complexity, deliver optimal results for insured clients, and develop litigation strategies. You will conduct research, draft pleadings, attend court events, and collaborate with claim partners to resolve matters efficiently.

A JD and active license in good standing are required, along with 2+ years of insurance defense experience.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international degree from an accredited law school.
• 2 years experience as a practicing attorney.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in required state(s).
• Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motions and depositions with travel ability.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply litigation strategies to try cases or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct legal research and produce persuasive writing and oral advocacy.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs and discovery documents.
• Attend court events, depositions and other appointments independently.
• Provide analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
• Build strong internal and external relationships with clients and partners.
• Provide advice and training to claim partners and clients.
• Utilize case management systems and automation effectively.
• Travel as required to meet business needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
