Job summary

Anchor Bay School District is seeking Literacy and At-Risk Tutors through EDUStaff to support district-wide literacy efforts in Casco, MI. The role is part-time with up to 6 hours per day, 5 days weekly when students are in session, and no fringe benefits.

The tutor will reinforce learning for individual or small groups, assist teachers with targeted strategies, and help maintain a supportive classroom atmosphere. Prior relevant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of college coursework (60 hours).
• Michigan Teaching Certificate is preferred.
• Experience working with children in an academic setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual and small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assist teacher with strategies tailored to each student.
• Care for classroom equipment and support daily activities.
• Record requested data from teachers or administrators.
• Attend in-service trainings and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Associate's (or higher) degree, or two years of study (equal to 60 semester hours) at an institution of higher education. A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate is preferred.
• Previous experience working with children in an academic setting is preferred.
• Proficient reading and writing abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with children and take direction.
• Physically able to lift 50 pounds.
• Pleasant, cooperative and flexible.
• A positive attitude to foster the proper atmosphere for a supportive classroom environment.
• Knowledge and ability to organize and carry out intervention and assistance to students in need of academic assistance.
• Work with students to reinforce learning of materials and skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher.
• Regular and reliable in person attendance is an essential job function.

Essential Functions :

• Works with individual and small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills based on an understanding of individual student, their needs, interests and abilities.
• Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
• Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
• Supports students in all aspects of their day, in classes, hallways, recess, lunchroom, etc.
• Able to record requested data from teachers, Social Workers or administrators.
• Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned by the building Principal.
