Job summary

American Electric Power in New Haven, Indiana is seeking a Line Servicer to install, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution facilities. You will respond to trouble calls, coordinate switching, and work with crews to restore service on overhead and underground lines.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of work experience as Line Mechanic A, Lineman A or the equivalent experience as determined by the Company.
• A valid Class A CDL is required.
• Must have performed duties of Lineman A or equivalent and qualify by demonstration or performance appraisal.
• A physical abilities assessment is required.
• Overtime and on-call work are required; travel may be required.
• Candidate must live within a 45-minute safe driving distance of the New Haven Service Center.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and take corrective action with respect to trouble calls on all transmission and distribution circuits and equipment.
• Investigate trouble calls; patrol and inspect lines; locate, clear and repair faults on lines and equipment; install and remove transformers, meters and services.
• Coordinate and/or conduct complex circuit switching and restoration of service after trouble calls.
• Work with hot line equipment on energized circuits for emergency repairs or routine maintenance.
• Interface with emergency forces to accomplish safe trouble call restoration.
• Communicate with customers and plan service resolutions; inform if trouble is in customer wiring.
• Install, remove, operate and maintain residential, commercial and industrial facilities, both overhead and underground.
• Disconnect and connect meters; read in and read out meters.
• Operate line switches; replace fuses; obtain line and station clearances.
• Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
