Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) Texarkana is seeking a cooperative education intern to learn installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical distribution facilities. You’ll work under supervision on overhead and underground systems, climb poles, and assist with line material handling and safety procedures.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a power line program with at least 16 weeks of internship, possess a high school diploma or GED, and hold or be eligible for a CDL permit.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; enrolled in power line related program with internship
• Internship included; 16 weeks minimum in related field
• Experience with safety rules and PPE is preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist in installation, maintenance, and inspection of distribution facilities under supervision
• Learn to splice primary/secondary overhead wires and use proper tools
• Assist with loading/unloading poles and line material
• Perform housekeeping, report unsafe conditions, and maintain tools and equipment
• Read and record meter readings and data from job sites
• Demonstrate professional conduct with coworkers, contractors, and customers
