Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a motivated Co-Op/Intern to support Distribution System operations in Texarkana, AR. Under supervision, you will learn installation, maintenance, and inspection of overhead and underground distribution facilities, as well as basic line work and safety practices.

You will participate in safety tailboards, JSA, and training while progressing toward skilled ground worker duties, pole handling, splicing, and working with line materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Enrolled in a power line related certificate program (≥16 weeks internship) or related associate degree with ≥16 weeks internship.
• Must complete HireVue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout (recommended).

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical distribution facilities under supervision.
• Learn and apply safety rules and participate in safety meetings and JSA.
• Assist with loading/unloading, installing, and removing poles and line materials.
• Help splice overhead lines and inspect equipment.
• Read simple prints and specifications; perform basic documentation.
