Job summary

American Electric Power in Indiana is hiring a Line Mechanic across multiple classifications to install, maintain and inspect transmission and distribution facilities, including overhead and underground lines. The role advances from C to B to A with increasing responsibilities, and requires a valid Class A CDL and safety certifications.

Employees may work overtime, be on-call, and travel as needed. Competitive compensation and benefits are offered within a large utility network.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Line Mechanic C requires 1 year of distribution electrical power line work or equivalent training.
• Line Mechanic B requires 2 years as Line Mechanic C or equivalent.
• Line Mechanic A requires apprentice lineman training with B-200 cert and journeyman pre-assessment.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities under supervision as skill level dictates.
• Progress through training levels (C, B, A) and work on energized conductors up to specified voltages.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable and troubleshoot URD cable and equipment.
• Use electrical test equipment for line work up to 600 volts.
• Direct the work of assistants and complete monthly apprentice cards.
