Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an Apprentice Line Mechanic to assist with installation, maintenance, and inspection of transmission and distribution facilities, including both overhead and underground lines. You will operate line trucks and climb poles as you advance through training to handle more complex tasks.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• No experience required; line work experience or line school education preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license; CDL permit within 60 days.
• Overtime and on-call work; travel may be required.
• HireVue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout is required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect underground facilities and equipment on de-energized overhead/underground systems under supervision.
• Perform ground person duties under supervision as skill level dictates.
• Load, unload, maintain, install and remove poles, towers, and structures.
• Operate company equipment and climb poles after training; work on energized conductors up to 260V under supervision as trained.
• After D-200, operate digger/derrick and aerial devices.
• Assemble and install line material and hardware; inspect rigging.
• Splice overhead wires using proper tools and equipment.
• Inspect and maintain tools, equipment and work area; manage PPE and vehicles.
• Perform pole-top and bucket truck rescue procedures as trained.
• Set barricades and control work area; read meters and submit reports.
• Perform similar or lesser skilled duties as assigned.
