Job summary

American Electric Power in Indiana is seeking a Line Mechanic Apprentice to assist in installation, maintenance and inspection of transmission and distribution facilities. You will operate line trucks and work on overhead and underground systems under supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with line work experience preferred. A valid driver’s license is required, and a CDL beginner’s permit must be obtained within 60 days. Travel and overtime are possible as part of the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required for consideration.
• Line work experience or line school education is preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• CDL beginners permit must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• Company requires proper licensing as required by law before end of probation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of underground and overhead facilities under supervision.
• Assemble and install Line Material and hardware, use hand lines, tie knots and inspect rigging equipment.
• Inspect and maintain tools, equipment and work area; manage PPE and company vehicles; report irregularities.
• Safely execute pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue processes as training permits.
• Set and remove barricades, flags, signs, cones; protect work areas.
• Maintain records and read/record meter readings; complete monthly apprentice cards for review.
• Perform similar or lesser skilled work as assigned.
