Job summary

Hef's Hut Bar & Grill in Vernon, NJ is seeking a dependable Line Cook / Prep Cook to join our kitchen team. This role handles daily prep, executes service tickets, maintains food quality standards, and keeps a clean, organized workstation.

We are a fast-paced kitchen focused on consistency, efficiency, and teamwork. The ideal candidate will support both prep and line tasks, follow recipes, sustain par levels, and uphold food safety standards while contributing to a positive kitchen culture.

Qualifications

• 1+ year kitchen experience preferred (but willing to train the right person)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong knife skills
• Understanding of basic cooking techniques
• Reliable transportation
• Weekend availability required

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients according to recipe specs (cutting, slicing, portioning, marinating, batching sauces, etc.)
• Follow standardized recipes and gram-based measurements
• Label, date, and rotate products (FIFO)
• Maintain par levels for service
• Assist with daily and weekly prep lists
• Maintain prep logs and communicate low inventory
• Execute menu items consistently during service
• Follow plating standards and portion control
• Maintain ticket times and communicate with expo
• Set up and break down station properly
• Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
• Keep station clean and organized at all times
• Follow cleaning procedures
• Maintain proper food storage temperatures
• Report equipment issues immediately
• Minimize waste and follow cost-control practices
