Job description

A Line Cook performs the majority of cooking in a kitchen, preparing everything from main dishes to salads, breads, pasta, and desserts. The role may involve working at a single station or multiple stations as needed. The key duties include:

  1. Storage and disposal of food: Managing storage of incoming stock and leftovers, assisting in unloading deliveries, and determining if leftovers can be reused or must be discarded.
  2. Testing Recipes: Assisting Executive Chefs in testing new recipes.
  3. Recording Supply Use: Tracking supplies used to facilitate reordering.
  4. Cleaning and preparing the station: Ensuring the station is clean, organized, and stocked before and after shifts.
  5. Food preparation: Preparing ingredients such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and cleaning seafood.
  6. Maintaining Sanitation Standards: Ensuring the kitchen complies with sanitation standards set by the Executive Chef and regulatory bodies.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a line cook in a Fast Casual Restaurant with a background in scratch cooking.
  • Ability to pass a kitchen knowledge test.
  • Availability to work 5 days a week from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, including weekends.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with good knife skills, up-to-date on Health Code issues, and demonstrate a strong work ethic, leadership, and food preparation knowledge.
  • Neat appearance, energetic, reliable, team-oriented, able to multi-task, and enjoy work.
  • Non-smoker, able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-minded attitude.

Physical requirements:

  • Standing for long periods.
  • Talking, hearing, and visual acuity for interacting with staff.
  • Walking on level surfaces, sometimes slippery.
  • Reaching above shoulder, below waist, or lifting up to 25 pounds.

Starting pay ranges from $12 to $14 per hour plus tips.
