Job summary

Cobb EMC is actively seeking a seasoned Manager, Line Construction and Forestry to oversee safe installation and ongoing maintenance of distribution power lines, ensuring right-of-way clearance and clear communication between field crews and the office.

The role emphasizes leadership over crews, adherence to schedules and budgets, and collaboration with engineering and operations to sustain reliable service. A strong background in line work and safety is required.

Qualifications

• High School or equivalent.
• Ten years’ experience in electric utility line work.
• Five years leading electric utility line crews.
• Six months as a Line Superintendent.
• Specialized training in live-line work, distribution line construction, and applied electricity.
• Knowledge of line feed system locations and interpretation of maps.
• Demonstrated expertise in basic electricity, safety rules and procedures.
• Knowledge of SCADA system, distribution lines, substation locations, and load management systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure jobs are completed within pre-established time frames and on budget.
• Resolve routine system maintenance problems daily.
• Ensure conversions in work plans are completed on time.
• Annually review storm procedures and propose revisions.
• Schedule training for installation and operation of new equipment.
• Ensure proper installation of transformers, breakers, takeoff assemblies, security lights, services, and regulators.
• Coordinate budgeting, bids, and contracts for line maintenance projects.
• Direct subordinate personnel in trimming and clearing of distribution right-of-way.
