Job summary

Tybee Lighthouse is seeking a full-time Education and Membership Staff member to lead educational activities, tours, and outreach programs. You will manage tours, booking, staffing, and volunteer coordination while collaborating with store operations and event planning.

The role emphasizes community outreach, public speaking, and ensuring a welcoming visitor experience. A strong educational background and museum experience are preferred, with the ability to work long outdoor hours and weekends.

Qualifications

• Degree in Education or related field (middle school certification and experience a plus).
• 3-5 years experience in the museum field preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft suite essential; experience with Past Perfect database and point of sale software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct educational activities, site lectures, guided tours, and outreach programs.
• Create and manage specialty tour content (lighthouse Christmas and Halloween programs).
• Monitor performance of membership, education, and tour programs and plan improvements if needed.
• Manage booking, payments, and staffing of all guided tours; partner with tour companies for group visits.
• Schedule and train volunteers and staff for large groups.
• Work with gift store management on group check-in system and processes.
• Work with volunteers for after-hours tours and training opportunities.
• Monitor site daily for safety and guest rules enforcement.
• Answer phones and open/close the site as needed.
• Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator for ongoing staff development.
