Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids seeks a skilled automotive mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on a range of gasoline and diesel engines and equipment. The role involves preparing work orders and requisitioning parts as needed.

Responsibilities include diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, steering and braking systems, fabricating and installing auxiliary equipment, and ensuring repairs meet safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with training in automotive/heavy equipment/light equipment, gasoline or diesel engine repairs.
• At least two years of related work experience performing automotive/heavy equipment/small engine mechanical repair and maintenance; and/or state certifications.
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs other City vehicles for a variety of departmental functions.
• Diagnoses and repairs all systems, i.e. electrical, hydraulic, steering, braking, engine systems and transmissions, etc.
• Fabricates, installs and repairs of auxiliary equipment, i.e. compressors, plows, spreaders, generators, equipment trailers, etc.
• Performs related work as required
