Job summary

City of Grand Rapids is seeking a reliable Equipment Assistant to support light and heavy equipment maintenance and assist mechanics. This role involves preparing equipment for service, performing basic repairs, and coordinating with local shops for repairs as needed.

The position requires a Valid Michigan Driver's License and a valid Michigan CDL Class A with Air Brakes and N Endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Driver's License.
• A Valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License Class A with Air Brakes and N Endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventative maintenance on heavy and light equipment.
• Makes small repairs of equipment and assists mechanics.
• Prepares new equipment for service and conducts service/recovery calls.
• Maintains parking lot and fuel island area; shuttles vehicles to local shops.
• Inspects brakes, suspensions, steering systems, exhaust systems, lighting systems for wear.
• Assists other mechanics with equipment repairs and related tasks.
