Job summary

City of Valdosta is seeking a maintenance worker to operate trucks and light equipment to care for city rights-of-way, cemeteries, and other properties, and to collect and transport refuse.

You will mow with tractors, prune trees and shrubs, and use hand tools as needed. The role includes operating a backhoe for graves, performing vehicle inspections, and assisting with traffic control and dispatch communications.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of techniques, equipment and supplies used in grounds and cemetery maintenance.
• Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of geography of the city, including street names.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic calculations.

Responsibilities

• Operate a truck and trailer to transport equipment and materials.
• Operate a truck and trailer, read-end loader, or other equipment on a route to collect refuse.
• Operate a tractor with bush hog for grounds maintenance.
• Use hand and power tools for maintenance tasks.
• Plan and prune trees and shrubs.
• Operate backhoe and dump truck for graves in cemetery.
• Maintain radio contact with dispatchers.
• Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Assist in traffic control at work sites.
