Job summary

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in grounds and cemetery maintenance.
• Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
• Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and light equipment.
• Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
• Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Operates a truck and trailer to transport equipment and materials.
• Operates a truck, read-end loader, or other equipment along a route to collect refuse.
• Operates a tractor with bush hog and other grounds maintenance equipment to mow grass on city rights-of-way, cemetery, and other city properties.
• Operates hand and power tools in performance of ground maintenance duties.
• Plans and prunes trees and shrubs.
• Operates a backhoe and dump truck to close and open graves in the cemetery.
• Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Assists in traffic control at work sites.
• Performs related duties.
