Job description

The hiring pay rate for this position is $21.10/hr. Under the general supervision of the Senior Lift Station Mechanic or designee, performs manual labor and skilled work related to the maintenance and repair of the City’s water and wastewater transmission systems in the Water/Wastewater Division of the Public Works Department. Responsible for equipment and supplies needed for daily operations and maintenance. Duties are performed independently, and the employee must be on-call for emergencies. Work is reviewed through observations and results.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Maintains proper operation of all City lift stations, including routine preventative maintenance such as temperature inspections, greasing, checking oil levels, cleaning, and painting.
  2. Performs electrical and mechanical repairs on the wastewater transmission system, including checking wells and pumps, and removing and repairing pumps, generators, and electrical equipment.
  3. Repairs and replaces panel boxes; performs routine preventative maintenance on the transmission system; performs repairs related to line repairs or replacements.
  4. Maintains daily readings record at City stations.
  5. Fixes sewer line stoppages.
  6. Performs grounds maintenance as needed.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical trade practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical repairs for pumps, motors, and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory related to mechanical parts and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment, machinery, and pumps.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the wastewater collection system.
  • Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment in operation, and detect flaws and defects.
  • Ability to read diagrams and charts accurately.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the trade.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work to close tolerances and perform heavy maintenance and repair work.
  • Skill in the safe operation of light to heavy motor vehicles.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; one year experience in maintenance and repair of motors and equipment at the journeyman level in a water/wastewater environment; or equivalent training and experience. Must possess a Level Three (3) Distribution System Operator’s License issued by Florida, or obtain within 18 months. A Wastewater Collection System “C” Operator’s License issued by Florida is required or must be obtained within 18 months. Valid Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is preferred; if not available at hire, a CDL permit must be obtained within 6 months, with full endorsement within 18 months. Extended probation applies if CDL is not valid at hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction), hearing (with or without hearing aid), as well as frequent reaching, bending, lifting, use of fingers and hands, sitting, standing, walking, and climbing.
