Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA is hiring Lifeguards in Austin, TX. This part-time role (15–28 hours per week) supports a safe, welcoming pool environment and includes a free YMCA membership.

You will monitor the pool, enforce rules, respond to emergencies with CPR/AED and First Aid, and assist with swim lessons. Applicants must be at least 16 and hold a YMCA or Red Cross lifeguard certification.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Holds a valid lifeguard certification from YMCA or Red Cross, including CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen administration.
• Excellent swimming, rescue techniques, and endurance.
• Remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
• Growth mindset with willingness to learn from feedback.
• Team player with a customer-focused attitude.
• Strong communication, listening, and written skills.
• Fosters inclusion and belonging in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pool areas and enforce safety rules.
• Respond to emergencies with first aid and CPR.
• Identify and resolve hazards promptly.
• Inspect pool equipment and facilities and report issues.
• Inform members about pool rules and safety procedures.
• Assist with swim lessons and aquatics programs.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in pool areas and locker rooms.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings.
• Demonstrate YMCA values in all interactions.
• Serve as an ambassador for the organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
