Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or obtain YMCA Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
• ASHI certifications for CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, Child Abuse Prevention Training, Information Security and Awareness, Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Universal Precautions, and New Staff Orientation Assessment.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool(s) and surrounding areas.
• Enforce safety rules and swim testing procedures for the pools and aquatics areas.
• Perform pool maintenance and cleaning (vacuuming, deck cleaning, tiles, trash pickup).
• Perform pool chemical testing and maintain accurate records.
• Conduct daily equipment checks and ensure equipment is available as needed.
• Monitor pool hazards and prevent accidents.
• Maintain all required certifications.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Monitor and perform rescues as needed with rapid response times.
• Build relationships with members and staff and communicate rules effectively.
