Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a dedicated Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions across pool areas, decks, and surround areas. The role emphasizes proactive safety, high standards of cleanliness, and rapid response to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies.

Responsibilities include enforcing safety rules, performing pool maintenance, testing chemicals, and monitoring hazards. Candidates must have current Lifeguard certification and maintain ongoing trainings as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification or obtain YMCA Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current or must obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, and related trainings.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe swimming conditions and enforce safety rules and testing procedures.
• Perform pool maintenance and cleaning, including vacuuming and debris removal.
• Conduct pool chemical testing and keep accurate records.
• Monitor for hazards and respond to emergencies per YMCA standards.
• Maintain required certifications and participate in trainings.
• Communicate rules firmly, fairly and tactfully to members and staff.
• Report suspicious behavior and ensure compliance with policies.
