Job summary

YMCA of Catawba Valley is seeking a lifeguard to maintain safe pool conditions and engage with members. You will monitor the pool and deck areas, respond to emergencies, perform first aid, and uphold YMCA policies while delivering excellent guest service.

Requirements include at least 16 years old, current lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certifications (preferred), and ability to pass practical guarding tests. Shift times require punctuality and vigilance in a warm environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Preferred candidates have current and active YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Must complete at least two hours of practical guarding at branch prior to first shift.
• Ability to pass lifeguard water and audible tests.
• Must remain alert in warm environments (80°F or higher).
• Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Audible awareness of noises and distress signals.
• Observe all pool areas with clear vision.
• Perform rescues, survival and CPR skills as needed.
• Speak clearly and project voice in potentially loud settings.
• Think quickly and act decisively in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of pool area; review emergency procedures and respond immediately.
• Respond to emergencies in assigned zone and communicate outside of zone as needed.
• Perform first aid and complete incident reports.
• Know and communicate pool policies and guidelines.
• Perform daily maintenance of waterpark for neat appearance.
• Provide superior customer service to guests.
• Participate in branch safety and quality drills.
• Attend monthly safety trainings and staffing meetings.
• Arrive 10 minutes before shift.
• Engage with members to build relationships and assist in goals.
• Uphold safe, inclusive environment; follow abuse prevention procedures.
