Job summary

Theuniversityunion Lifeguard position in Raleigh is part-time and non-exempt, reporting to the Aquatics Director. You will monitor the pool area, respond to emergencies, perform equipment checks and enforce safety rules to ensure member safety and enjoyment.

Requirements include being at least 16 years old and holding CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications, plus current Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Certifications required include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent.
• Ability to maintain certification readiness.
• Lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff.
• Applies safety rules and maintains required records.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures equipment is available.
• Checks the pool for hazards on arrival.
• Performs chemical testing and takes appropriate action.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service training.
• Models relationship-building in interactions.
• Maintains clear communication within area of responsibility.
