Join Our Team as a Lifeguard at YMCA of Greater Brandywine

Embark on a journey of impactful adventure! The lifeguard is responsible for the safety of members and program participants across all aquatic facilities. This role involves enforcing aquatic policies and procedures in compliance with state regulations, YMCA standards, Ellis and Associates licensing, and insurance requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Actively scan assigned zones every 10 seconds and reach the farthest point within 20 seconds
  • Perform comprehensive bottom scans during rotations
  • Position yourself to avoid glare and obstructions for optimal visibility
  • Guard from designated positions and change body position every five minutes per standards
  • Never leave the pool unguarded; stay rescue-ready at all times
  • Participate in drills and respond as if in live situations
  • Close the pool if unsafe and follow lightning policies
  • Communicate professionally with members and enforce rules courteously
  • Assist with pool area maintenance and adhere to shift rotation policies
  • Refrain from cell phone use during active guarding hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Must be 18+ years old
  • Current Ellis & Associates lifeguard certification or equivalent
  • CPR, First Aid, Oxygen, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications
  • Complete monthly in-service training
  • Obtain and maintain all certifications within 90 days of hire
Work Conditions & Physical Demands

Must be able to perform essential functions, including prolonged computer use, communication, movement, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations available.
