Job description

Comfortable in the water but not certified? No worries - we will train you! Our Lifeguards are vital employees that keep the members in our pools safe. Minimum age is 15 years old. Must have swimming experience, pass a swim skills test, and be able to submit clearances.

Essential Functions

1. Maintain active surveillance of the pool area, remaining on deck at all times, and respond to emergencies.
2. Remain rescue ready while on duty, including proper attire.
3. Follow proper protocols for shift transitions.
4. Enforce all pool rules consistently and calmly.
5. Organize equipment and keep the pool area neat.
6. Inform members about lap patterns and respond to challenges promptly.
7. Create a friendly atmosphere while supervising all areas.
8. Follow opening and closing procedures.
9. Maintain accurate records, such as chemical readings.
10. Attend staff meetings and trainings.

Qualifications

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Perform all physical skills required of a lifeguard.
• Hear noises and distress signals in and around the water.
• Work outdoors and be exposed to the elements.
• Handle pool chemicals safely.
• Remain alert and observe all zones.
• Communicate effectively in loud environments.
• Occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.

Additional requirements include current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certifications, and background checks (PA State Police, Child Abuse, FBI fingerprint).
