Summary

This is skilled water safety work involving the prevention of accidents and injuries at a City swimming pool.

Nature of Work

Responsible for safeguarding patrons by preventing injuries or drowning, administering first aid or CPR. Work follows departmental rules and water safety practices. Supervision is from a superior who assigns work and reviews performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain order and discipline among swimmers.
• Rescue distressed bathers; provide resuscitation and first aid.
• Assist in pool procedures, inspections, and aquatic programs.
• Maintain cleanliness of pool area and support facilities.
• Conduct water quality tests, monitor temperature, and perform cleaning.
• Maintain logs of maintenance and chemical use.
• Operate and maintain pool equipment.
• Collect and submit admission fees.
• Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of water rescue and first aid techniques.
• Ability to learn rules quickly and enforce them tactfully.
• Recognize emergencies and respond effectively.
• Skills in swimming, lifesaving, and first aid.
• Flexible working hours including evenings and weekends.
• Physical strength and agility for rescues.

Education

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience and Training

Current Lifeguard Training Certification with CPR for Professional Rescuer or equivalent. Must pass City of Opa-locka performance test.

Special Requirements

At least 18 years of age.

Supervision

Work is assigned with some independence; reviewed through reports and inspections.

Physical Demands and Environment

Stand, walk, see, hear, and communicate frequently; lift up to 20 pounds; specific vision requirements.
