Job summary

Caltrol is seeking a skilled Technician for a split role involving field service and shop work across the Western United States. The position requires hands-on mechanical work on valves, actuators, and instrumentation, with emphasis on troubleshooting and reliability improvements.

You will travel up to 40% and work from the Taft service center, performing repairs, diagnostics, testing, and collaboration with a team of professionals. A strong mechanical background and safety mindset are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and rebuilding control valves, actuators, and instrumentation.
  • Performing preventive maintenance, calibrations, diagnostics, and equipment overhauls.
  • Disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling mechanical equipment for reliable operation.
  • Travel to customer facilities and Caltrol service centers for hands-on field work.
  • Inspecting equipment and documenting repair findings, test results, and recommended actions.

Hiring Range

The hiring range for this position is** $30.00 - $35.00 p/hour.** This is the pay scale range Caltrol reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, skills, qualifications, and experience, along with the requirements of the position.

What You'll Do
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and rebuilding control valves, actuators, and instrumentation
  • Performing preventive maintenance, calibrations, diagnostics, and equipment overhauls
  • Disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling mechanical equipment to ensure reliable operation
  • Working at customer facilities and in Caltrol service centers
  • Inspecting equipment and documenting repair findings, test results, and recommended corrective actions

  • Providing exceptional service while building strong customer relationships

What You’ll Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in a mechanical, industrial, maintenance, service, or technical role
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience using hand tools and common shop equipment
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card
  • Ability to meet customer site access requirements, including DISA/ASAP screening programs
  • You must have a valid driver's license in good standing and an excellent driving record.
  • You must also be able to pass random hair follicle drug testing that includes testing for marijuana.

We’re especially interested in candidates who enjoy working with their hands and have demonstrated mechanical aptitude through maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, rebuilding, or overhauling industrial and mechanical equipment. The ideal candidate has experience diagnosing equipment issues, disassembling components, performing repairs, determining root causes, and safely returning equipment to service. Hands-on experience repairing, rebuilding, or overhauling pumps, motors, valves, compressors, rotating equipment, piping systems, or similar mechanical equipment is highly valued.

Travel & Work Environment

This role offers a combination of field service and shop-based work. You will travel up to 40% of the year to customer facilities, Caltrol service centers, and Emerson locations, with some overnight travel required. When not supporting field activities, you will work from our Taft service center, performing equipment repairs, diagnostics, testing, and other hands-on technical work in a collaborative team environment.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, fire-resistant clothing, safety-toed footwear, hearing protection, and respiratory protection as required.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods, including up to 8 hours per day.
  • Perform physical activities such as climbing, kneeling, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and industrial site conditions.
  • Work in environments that may involve exposure to chemicals, moving mechanical equipment, and mobile machinery.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety procedures and customer site requirements.
