Job summary

The Brookings-Harbor High School is hiring a Life Skills Instructional Assistant to support the classroom teacher and deliver planned activities using designated methods. The role includes materials prep, student supervision, and behavior support across ages 5 to 21 in a special education setting.

Two positions are available for 4 hours each. The ideal candidate will have two years of post-secondary education (or an Associate Degree), valid Oregon driver’s license, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license.
• Must possess OIS certification or have completed other Restraint/Seclusion courses approved by the District within 90 days of hire.
• Must be able to drive to alternate locations in order to support students.
• Must have completed two years of post-secondary education or an Associate Degree, preferably including coursework in working with children in an educational setting.
• In lieu of Item 4 above, must possess both of the following: High School Diploma or equivalent, and Passing score on a qualifying state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Must have two years of previous training and/or experience in instructional techniques and behavior management and modification, preferably with disabled children and/or adults.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment.
• Must be able to collect data and perform basic mathematical functions.
• Must be able to communicate in written and spoken English with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as computer, word processor, calculator and photocopier.

Responsibilities

• Assist in academic instruction by working with small groups or individual students.
• Prepare instructional materials using teacher-designated methods and technology.
• Implement individual and group behavior plans and supervise activities as needed.
• Maintain student records and perform clerical duties with accuracy.
• Provide transportation or offsite supervision when required.
