Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct the security staff in a medium‑security facility, ensuring custody and control of inmates. You will oversee security for all buildings and public property and perform routine unit inspections for safety and OSHA compliance.

Additionally, you will assist with inmate counts, investigate complaints and disputes, and coordinate with correctional staff.

Qualifications

• Requires HS diploma and 3 years in correctional, security, military, or police work with 1 year supervisory experience.
• Degree may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and three (3) years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
