The State of South Carolina is seeking a supervisory security professional to oversee security personnel on shift at a correctional facility. The role includes evaluating staff, conducting briefings, and ensuring day-to-day operations align with inmate management policies.

Responsibilities include on-shift supervision, inmate counseling, and enforcement of procedures. Completion of required SCDC training and certification is mandatory within six months of hire.

• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

• Instruct and counsel inmates as required.
• Monitor inmate movement within the institution.
• Perform essential and marginal duties of subordinates.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

• Makes routine and non-routine security checks of work areas, living area units
• Conducts counts, (formal and non-formal)
• Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action.
• Instructs and counsels inmates as required.
• Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
• Performs essential and marginal duties of subordinates.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
