State of South Carolina is seeking a security supervisor to oversee the security staff and supervise inmate custody in a medium-security facility. You will plan and direct daily security operations and ensure compliance with safety and OSHA standards.

The role requires completing SCDC Basic Training upon hire and certification by the SCDC Training Academy within six months. A high school diploma with relevant experience is required, with a degree potentially substituting supervisory experience.

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in a medium-security facility.


• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.


• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.


• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.


• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and three (3) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.




• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).




• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
