State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee the security staff and manage inmate custody in a medium security facility. You will supervise security operations, safeguard buildings and public property, and ensure OSHA and cleanliness standards are met.

The role includes performing routine unit checks, assisting with inmate counts, and investigating complaints or disputes among inmates and staff.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma; a related degree may substitute for experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including 1 year in a supervisory role.

Job Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in a medium security facility.


• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.


• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.


• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.


• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

Key Requirements

• Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.


• A high school diploma and three (3) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.


• A degree in criminal Justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).


• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
