Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a Security Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct security staff across a medium/maximum facility. You will oversee inmate custody, perform routine area checks, and ensure OSHA standards are met.

Under general supervision, you will maintain order, investigate violations, and participate in counts and staffing decisions. A high school diploma and supervisory experience are required, with state training commitments upon hire.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by SCDC training academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and three (3) years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
