Role Description

The Lien Specialist is responsible for identifying, tracking, negotiating, and resolving medical, insurance, governmental, and other liens and reimbursement claims related to personal injury matters. The Lien Specialist plays an important role in maximizing the client's net recovery by pursuing appropriate lien and balance reductions while ensuring all valid obligations are resolved accurately and efficiently. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing client files for potential liens and outstanding balances; corresponding with healthcare providers, insurance carriers, government agencies, subrogation vendors, and other lienholders; negotiating lien reductions and resolutions; identifying billing or lien discrepancies; obtaining final balances and written reduction confirmations; and maintaining accurate documentation in the firm's case management system. The Lien Specialist works closely with attorneys, paralegals, and other team members to ensure liens are resolved promptly so settled cases can move efficiently toward final disbursement. The position also includes monitoring outstanding items and deadlines, maintaining consistent follow-up, and communicating professionally with clients and third parties when necessary.


Qualifications


  • Experience in personal injury, lien resolution, medical billing, insurance claims, healthcare reimbursement, collections, settlement administration, or related legal support.

  • Prior experience negotiating medical liens, provider balances, reimbursement claims, or subrogation claims strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, private health insurance, medical-provider liens, and health insurance subrogation highly desirable.

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to review medical bills, lien documentation, reimbursement claims, and settlement information for discrepancies and negotiation opportunities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to independently manage a high volume of active files, deadlines, and follow-up requirements.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and other members of the legal team.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively use legal case-management software.

  • Ability to handle confidential medical, financial, and legal information with discretion.

  • Prior experience with a plaintiff personal injury law firm or U.S. healthcare billing/reimbursement environment strongly preferred.
