Job summary

Voyant Photonics seeks a Sensor Verification & Characterization Engineer (LiDAR) to join the Systems Team in NYC. You will design verification tests, derisk new technologies, and characterize subsystems toward production, collaborating across hardware, optics, firmware, and controls.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field (MS/PhD a plus).
• 4+ years hands-on system/test verification or derisking experience.
• Lab equipment proficiency and automation experience.
• Python for test automation and data analysis.
• Ability to design experiments under uncertainty with defensible conclusions.
• Strong systems-level thinking and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute verification and characterization tests for full sensor systems and subsystems.
• Plan rapid derisk experiments to inform specifications and architecture decisions.
• Correlate measurements with simulations and models to improve accuracy.
• Troubleshoot and debug system- and subsystem-level issues using physics reasoning.
• Generate test reports and form hypotheses to drive design tradeoffs.
• Build and automate test benches and lab equipment for repeatable verification.
• Collaborate with hardware, photonics, firmware, and controls teams throughout lifecycle.
• Adapt to changing requirements and take ownership of critical tasks.
