Job summary

Voyant Photonics in New York City is seeking a Sensor Verification & Characterization Engineer to join the Systems Team. You will design and execute tests for full sensor systems, derisk new technologies, and build verification benches.

This on-site role requires hands-on experience with lab equipment, strong Python skills, and the ability to turn data into actionable insights while collaborating across hardware, photonics, optics, firmware, and controls.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field (MS/PhD a plus).
• 4+ years of hands-on sensor test, verification, characterization, or early-stage technology derisking.
• Hands-on experience with lab equipment and automating test equipment.
• Proficiency in Python for test automation and data analysis.
• Strong systems-level thinking and the ability to apply physics and engineering fundamentals to debug complex problems.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute verification tests for full sensor systems and subsystems, ensuring designs meet performance requirements.
• Plan and run rapid derisk experiments for new technologies to inform specifications.
• Correlate measurements against models, feeding results back to improve predictive accuracy.
• Troubleshoot and debug system-level issues using first-principles physics reasoning.
• Generate clear test reports and hypotheses to drive decisions with the broader team.
• Build, maintain, and automate test benches and lab equipment.
• Adapt quickly to changing requirements and priorities as programs evolve.
• Collaborate with hardware, photonics, optics, firmware, and controls engineers.
