Job summary

The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) seeks a Lead Licensing Worker to direct licensing specialists, ensure accurate processing of applications, and manage background checks in Des Moines. You will lead staff development and drive continuous process improvements in a fast-paced regulatory environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with administrative support or program experience.
• Experience directing and balancing daily team work and onboarding staff.
• Ability to apply Iowa statutes and rules to determine eligibility.
• Strong written and oral communication for applicants and licensees.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily operations of licensing specialists and balance workloads.
• Train new staff and develop cross-training plans and backups.
• Act as escalation point for complex complaints and information requests.
• Oversee background check processes and related SOPs.
• Review complex licensing applications and renewals for compliance.
• Lead quality improvement projects and SOP development.
• Produce operational reports and mandated legislative materials.
