Job summary

Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) seeks a licensed mental health professional (LCPC/LCSW) to provide counseling and support to gifted high school students. The role includes crisis management, collaboration with staff, and coordinating programs like Sophomore Seminar and STEP.

You will work with a diverse student body, oversee referrals, and participate in staff trainings and campus events as needed. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a counseling related field.
• Illinois LCPC/LCSW licensure required.
• Experience in an educational setting.
• Experience working with high school students.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support the emotional, psychosocial and overall psychological wellbeing of the students.
• Assist students in adjusting to IMSA's academic and social environment, including crisis management.
• Assess and refer students and families to appropriate resources.
• Coordinate and participate in programs such as Sophomore Seminar and STEP.
• Provide crisis intervention and advocate for students with staff and peers.
• Train Resident Counselors and staff on mental health topics.
• Mandated reporting for child abuse and neglect.
• Communicate with parents about serious psychological problems.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs and Academy partners to support students' needs.
