Job summary

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy seeks Resident Counselors to live on campus and support a wing of 24 gifted students, fostering their personal, social, and academic growth within a living-learning environment.

Responsibilities include planning educational and social programs, monitoring progress, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with staff while participating in an on-call rotation with evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Driver’s license required.
• Experience in residence life strongly preferred.
• Experience working with adolescence strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals and diverse populations.
• Comfort with technology and the use of basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor academic, emotional, developmental needs of 24 residents.
• Plan and document educational and social programs.
• Attend academy events and coordinate service learning.
• Communicate student issues with staff and parents.
• Respond to emergencies and document incidents.
• Travel with students in state vehicles as needed.
• On-call rotation approximately every 9 days.
