Job summary

Swain Community Hospital in Bryson City, NC, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for its Medical/Surgical unit. The 14-bed unit operates 3x12s with day shifts (7am–7pm).

The role emphasizes compassionate care, with a 6:1 patient-to-nurse ratio and collaboration with physicians, APRNs, RNs, and CNAs. In addition to clinical duties such as vitals, injections, medications, wound care, and charting, you will help prepare rooms, support procedures, and document care in the medical record.

Qualifications

• LPN license active in North Carolina or compact state.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS required within six months of hire.
• Minimum one year of nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers with patient visits by obtaining vitals and medical history.
• Prepare exam rooms for patients.
• Assist with procedures and specimen collection.
• Administer injections and medications as ordered.
• Document care and education in the medical record.

Job Type: Full Time | Day $7,500 Sign-On Bonus with a 2-year commitment for eligible candidates.

Schedule: 3x12s, day shift (7a-7p). Holidays and weekends required.

Team

Join a 14-bed Medical Surgical Unit where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of Physicians, Advanced Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. With a 6:1 ratio, you will play a crucial role in assessing patient needs, administering treatments and ensuring patient comfort and safety. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality patient care. This unit utilizes a self-scheduling application.

How You'll Contribute

• Assists Providers with preparation and information documentation for the patient's visit including obtaining vitals, medical history and other pertinent information from the patient.


• Prepares exam rooms for patients.


• Assists Providers with procedures as directed by the Provider.


• Assists with collection of lab samples.


• Gives injections, administers meds, and provides wound care as ordered by Provider.


• Documents all care and education in medical record.

What We’re Looking For

• Licenses: Active North Carolina or compact state LPN license required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.


• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.


• AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.


• One year of experience preferred.


• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
