Job summary

Swain Community Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Med/Surg unit. The PRN position involves 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, in a 14-bed unit. You will assess patients, administer care, document appropriately, and participate in care planning within a collaborative team.

Requires NC RN license and BLS; ACLS/PALS within six months. Associate degree required; BSN preferred. Prior experience is a plus in a fast-paced setting.

  • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS required within six months of hire.
  • One year of RN experience preferred.
  • Associate degree required; BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate patient assessments and identify needs.
  • Initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Provide care appropriate to patient condition and age.
  • Document care and medical necessity in the chart.
  • Develop and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient.
  • Complete timely QA assessments.

Join our team

In a 14-bed Medical Surgical Unit where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of Physicians, Advanced Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. With a 6:1 ratio, you will play a crucial role in assessing patient’s needs, administering treatments and ensuring patient comfort and safety. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality patient care. This unit utilizes a self-scheduling application.

How you’ll contribute
  • Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
  • Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
  • Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
  • Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

What we’re looking for
  • Active North Carolina or compact state RN license required.
  • If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
  • Associate's degree required, BSN preferred.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
