Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) functions under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in the clinical setting, within the scope of practice dictated by the State Boards of Nursing. The LPN demonstrates professional and clinical knowledge relative to the designated clinical practice setting in the delivery of direct patient care, adhering to the verified competency level dictated by the site-specific program. The LPN works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support and communicate effectively with other licensed practitioners (Physicians, NP, PA), providing care, treatment, clinical support, and education for patients and families. The LPN manages workload responsibilities with accuracy, offers excellent customer service, performs testing, medication administration, and implements nursing interventions and care plans to support holistic patient care. The LPN also serves as a patient advocate in disease prevention. Work may be performed in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, outpatient clinics, or private homes.
