Job summary

City of Chesapeake seeks a qualified behavioral health professional with a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field to join our Emergency Services program.

This role requires a VA license (LCP, LCSW, or LPC) and at least four years of related full-time experience. Additional certifications and licenses may be required depending on assignments, and employees may work hours beyond the usual schedule for department needs.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field; or another degree approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
• Minimum four years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
• Virginia licensure as Clinical Psychologist (LCP), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Professional Counselor (LPC) required.
• May require additional certifications or licenses for the Emergency Services Program.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Requires a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field, or another degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

Experience Requirement

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of four years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Special Certifications And Licenses

• Requires State of Virginia licensure as a Clinical Psychologist ( LCP ), Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ), or Professional Counselor ( LPC ).
• A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist ( LMFT ), Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist MD/DO, or a Bachelor’s Prepared Registered Nurse (RN) with five years of experience may be considered in the Emergency Services Program.
• May require Pre-Screening Certification within 6 weeks of employment (12 weeks for part-time staff) for those in the Emergency Services Program.
• Depending on the position, it may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards .

Special Requirements

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in CSB Emergency Services, Crisis Receiving Centers, Mobile Crisis, psychiatric hospitals, emergency departments, or community crisis programs.
• Experience with TDO evaluations and psychiatric hospitalization coordination.
• Knowledge of Medicaid-funded behavioral health services and electronic health record documentation.
