Job summary

City of Chesapeake Virginia seeks a Licensed Clinician II to join the Emergency Services team at 216 Great Bridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA. You will perform crisis assessments and coordinate care for adults, adolescents, and children in crisis, with a supervisory role for clinical staff.

You will provide stabilization, risk assessment, and disposition planning while collaborating with hospitals, law enforcement, EMS, schools, families, and community providers.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field is required.
  • Minimum of four years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive emergency behavioral health assessments for adults, adolescents, and children in crisis.
  • Complete pre-admission screenings for psychiatric hospitalization per DBHDS requirements.
  • Assess risk and develop safety and crisis stabilization plans.
  • Coordinate voluntary/involuntary admissions and TDO evaluations with partners.
  • Provide crisis counseling, de-escalation, and stabilization services.
  • Collaborate with hospitals and community providers for continuity of care.
  • Complete timely clinical documentation per policies and Medicaid requirements.
  • Provide clinical supervision to staff seeking licensure.
  • Participate in rotating on-call and after-hours coverage.

Work Schedule

Job Description

This position is located at 216 Great Bridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA. Are you a licensed behavioral health professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment? Join our Emergency Services team and play a vital role in providing immediate behavioral health crisis intervention to individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, and co-occurring emergencies.

As a Licensed Clinician II, you will serve in a supervisory capacity to provide comprehensive crisis assessment, intervention, stabilization, and disposition planning while partnering with hospitals, law enforcement, EMS , schools, families, and community providers.   • Conduct comprehensive emergency behavioral health assessments for adults, adolescents, and children experiencing psychiatric, substance use, or co-occurring crises.
  • Complete pre-admission screenings for psychiatric hospitalization in accordance with Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services ( DBHDS ) requirements.
  • Assess for risk of harm to self or others and develop clinically appropriate safety and crisis stabilization plans.
  • Coordinate voluntary and involuntary psychiatric admissions, including Temporary Detention Order ( TDO ) evaluations and collaboration with magistrates, law enforcement, and psychiatric facilities.
  • Provide crisis counseling, de-escalation, brief therapeutic interventions, and stabilization services.
  • Collaborate with hospitals, Crisis Receiving Centers, Mobile Crisis teams, outpatient providers, and community partners to ensure continuity of care.
  • Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency policies, Medicaid requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide clinical supervision to subordinate staff seeking clinical licensure
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and provide services during evenings, weekends, holidays, or overnight shifts as assigned.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field, or another degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of four years of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :

  • Requires State of Virginia licensure as a Clinical Psychologist ( LCP ), Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ), or Professional Counselor ( LPC ).
  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist ( LMFT ), Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist MD/DO, or a Bachelor’s Prepared Registered Nurse (RN) with five years of experience may be considered in the Emergency Services Program.
  • May require Pre-Screening Certification within 6 weeks of employment (12 weeks for part-time staff) for those in the Emergency Services Program.
  • Depending on the position, it may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards .

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in CSB Emergency Services, Crisis Receiving Centers, Mobile Crisis, psychiatric hospitals, emergency departments, or community crisis programs.
  • Experience with TDO evaluations and psychiatric hospitalization coordination.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid-funded behavioral health services and electronic health record documentation.
