Job summary

City of Cambridge seeks an Executive Officer to serve as the principal administrative staff member for the City’s Board of License Commissioners and the Pole and Conduit Commission. The EO will oversee staff, respond to inquiries, and coordinate communications among the Board, departments, and external parties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; J.D. preferred.
  • Legal education or background, or a minimum of two years of legal work experience.
  • Three years of supervisory experience and relevant administrative experience.
  • Municipal licensing experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interact daily with the public and City employees to coordinate hearings and support Commission business; route inquiries and assist with procedures.
  • Process new and renewal applications; maintain files; manage fees, fines, and background checks; generate reports from databases.
  • Serve as Keeper of Records and respond to public information requests in coordination with the City’s Public Records Access Officer.
  • Attend and assist at public hearings; draft reports, minutes, agendas, notices, and correspondence.
  • Oversee hearings and publication of notices; coordinate with abutters and agencies on licensing laws.
