Job summary

The Maryland Department of Labor seeks an Executive Director for the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. This leader will enforce the regulations of the State Athletic Commission, administer the Commission’s office, and oversee staff at Commission-sanctioned events in order to protect contestant safety and ensure fair, equitable decisions.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree
• Five years of customer service experience in administrative staff or professional work
• Experience supervising staff and coordinating operations
• Experience with state government policies, regulations and procedures
• Experience with combative sports such as boxing, MMA, wrestling
• Experience with AS400 Licensing system, Google and Microsoft suites

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff at Commission-sanctioned combative sports events (up to ~25 people: referees, judges, physicians, inspectors); enforce regulations; oversee contests; manage medical examinations and drug testing; license issuance; custodianship of records.
• Convey information to licensees via telephone, email, mail and fax; prepare documents; administer day-to-day office operations; liaise with promoters involved in boxing, MMA and wrestling for events in Maryland.
• Supervise the Commission's fiscal management; assist in budget preparation; implement fiscal/administrative changes to improve efficiency and reduce costs; account for all revenue and expenditures.
