Job summary

UNC Pembroke is seeking a Director of Technical Services/Assistant Dean to lead the Technical Services unit within Library Services. The role oversees acquisitions, cataloging, systems and special collections, ensuring resources are discoverable and accessible for teaching, learning, and research.

The successful candidate will supervise librarians and technicians, manage budgets, develop policies, and collaborate with campus divisions to advance accreditation and program needs.

Qualifications

• Five years of academic library experience with a minimum of three years in a supervisory role.
• Experience with data analysis, report writing, outreach and promotion of resources, staff development, and budget management.
• Experience with resource sharing and collaboration across library units.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership for effective operation, workflow, strategic and operational planning, and budgetary oversight of the Technical Services unit.
• Directly supervises two librarians, four technicians, student workers, and interns.
• Oversees human resource functions including recruitment, onboarding, supervision, performance management, and staff development.
• Manages the lifecycle of the library’s physical and electronic collections, including acquisition and access to resources.
• Provides leadership in acquisitions and collection management to support accreditation standards and program needs.
• Develops annual acquisitions plan and monitors expenditures and budget activity.
• Maintains liaison relationships with academic divisions to support collection development and assessment.
• Provides leadership in management of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, streaming media, and journals.
• Monitors publisher and vendor products, pricing, and negotiations; coordinates contract reviews.
